2004 Las Vegas

Since Mike has a cabin at Big Bear and we wanted to get started early without having to ride 60 miles of Freeway, we spent the night in Big Bear. Starting down out of Big Bear at 7:00 AM on a cold Friday morning. 34 degrees F that's Mike there warming his hands on my heated grips. Mike knows this are very well so we took a short-cut and quickly dropping down out of the mountains to the desert floor and into the town of Hesperia were we stopped for breakfast. Taking off from breakfast we really did not have anything mapped out so we just took the most direct route to Barstow were we gassed up. Nothing much on this section, except for a herd of wild dogs, which we came upon when I had slowed down to check our directions on my GPS. They were about 20 yards off of the road and looked like they meant business, especially when I slowed down and the biggest one came running after me. Luckily they top-out around 30 to 40 mph, so we easily left them in our dust. Just out of Barstow we hit a dirt road heading north east. The desert had gotten allot of moisture this year and the vegetation and wild life was abundant. The scenery was spectacular but there were lizards all over the trail, they sure were quick, but just not quick enough to get out of the way of a motorcycle doing 50 MPH. So after trying to dodge the 100th lizard on the trail I stopped trying to avoid hitting them. I felt bad for them but given the choice between me crashing trying to avoid hitting them or running over them, I choose not to crash. Sorry lizards.
